Golden sand, turquoise water, long walks along the Atlantic coast… Florida's east coast offers an incredible diversity of beaches. During our journey between the historic north and the tropical south, we discovered completely different atmospheres: some perfect for walking, others for relaxing, snorkeling, or enjoying seaside restaurants.
Here is our practical guide to 6 beaches you absolutely must discover, with useful information: access, parking and amenities.
1. St. Augustine Beach – The historic and family-friendly atmosphere
It was impossible to start anywhere other than Saint Augustine, which was for us the gateway to our long stay in Florida. The oldest city in the United States, it combines historical heritage with a vast sandy beach. The atmosphere is calmer than in South Florida.
Dinner on the beach at The Reef restaurant is a must.
Why we love it
✔ Large beach for walking
✔ Relaxed atmosphere
✔ Magnificent sunrises
✔ Close to the historic center
Practical information
🚗 Access: several public access points, the main one being at the county pier (Ocean Pier Park)
🅿️ Parking: Public parking near the dock and several secondary access points
🚻 Amenities: toilets, showers, picnic tables, volleyball court, playground, walking path, food kiosks
♿ Accessibility: some areas have adapted access and beach chairs are available upon reservation
2. Miami Beach – The Florida icon
It's hard to talk about Florida beaches without mentioning Miami Beach. People come here as much for the ocean as for the atmosphere: palm trees, white sand, Art Deco architecture, and lively promenades. Be careful with your budget, though. The bars and restaurants along Collins Avenue are VERY expensive.

✔ Water often superb
✔ Restaurants and urban atmosphere
Practical information

🅿️ Parking: municipal and paid parking nearby
🚻 Amenities: toilets, outdoor showers, pedestrian promenade, restaurants, chair rental

3. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea – Our top pick for relaxation
If you prefer quieter places than Miami, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a wonderful surprise. We absolutely loved this beach, which we visited several times. The family-friendly and peaceful atmosphere charmed us. Plus, the restaurants are more affordable than in Miami Beach. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Practical information
🚗 Access: Easy public access from the village center
🅿️ Parking: Paid municipal parking within walking distance

4. Pompano Beach – To enjoy the water and activities
Pompano Beach has changed a lot in recent years with a modern promenade and a more refined atmosphere. The beach is wide and well-maintained. People come here with family or friends to relax, swim, or simply do yoga.
The new pier looks fantastic. The restaurants lining the beach create a lively atmosphere well into the evening. They offer good value for money and there's plenty of choice. Our favorite is the Briny Irish Pub . This pub doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside, you're transported to a timeless Irish atmosphere.
Pompano Beach is also the perfect place to witness a splendid sunrise.
