In the heart of Pont-Rouge, in the Portneuf region, lies a beautiful and easily accessible hiking trail. The main trailhead is located at the parking lot at 175 Route de la Pinière (across from the IGA grocery store). You can also access the trail via a path behind the school on Rue de la Fabrique or from the parking lot at Île Notre-Dame Park.
This lovely hike is accessible year-round. It's an easy hike, and dogs on leashes are welcome.
The 4.6 km trail follows the Jacques Cartier River. If you start at the main trailhead, you'll have to descend 132 steps to reach the river. This is undoubtedly the most scenic viewpoint on the hike. The river is narrow and a large rocky beach is accessible on foot.
Personally, I prefer to start from Île Notre-Dame or the school and end with this section, rather than starting there.
